The Miniature Australian Shepherd (a.k.a. North American Miniature Australian Shepherd or North American Shepherd) resulted from a breeding program that was begun in 1968.
Mini Aussies are a smaller version of the standard size. They have soft wavy or straight coats, feathering on the backs of their legs and an mane around their necks. Their muzzles are wedge shaped and they have round compact feet.

According to ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry) the Toy Australian Shepherd is between ten and fourteen inches measured at the highest point of the withers. Hair is of medium texture, straight to wavy, weather resistant and of medium length. Hair is short and smooth on the head, ears, front of forelegs and below the hocks. Backs of the forelegs and britches are moderately feathered.

Temperament: Sweet, easy going highly trainable & naturally protective. They are devoted; require plenty of exercise to keep them from getting bored and are eager to please. The breed is quiet and will try to herd people. A fenced yard is a good idea.
